Potato Weekly - 30 April 2012
- The GB weekly average was to 114.31/t and the free-market average was £87.07/t.
- In the packing sector demand improved a little for best, bold, whites but prices were steady. Ample supplies of general pack material were slow to sell. Prices for best reds, M Piper and K Edwards remained firm.
- In the bag sector trade was generally slow although the firming trend continued for the very best frying supplies. Red varieties were becoming harder to source.
- Total plantings up to 27 April are estimated at 74,000ha, compared to 111,300ha last year and 100,500ha in 2010.
