About AHDB Potatoes

AHDB Potatoes is a division of the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board, and is committed to making the potato industry more competitive and sustainable through factual, evidence-based advice, information and activity.

AHDB Potatoes is funded from the AHDB potato levy which is ring fenced to be used for the benefit of potato levy payers. See current levy rates here.

Core AHDB Potatoes activities include:

Research and Development

Delivering research and innovation to serve industry needs around production agronomy, plant health, crop protection, crop storage. 

Providing specialist levy funded and commercial research on potato (and other crop) storage.

Knowledge Transfer and Communications

Converting R&D into practical beneficial changes in business through events, advisory literature and e-comms. 

Enhancing business skills through benchmarking groups. 

Ensuring levy payers stay abreast of key issues through regular bulletins, newsletters, press work and direct comms. 

Seed and Export 

Exploring and opening new export markets while maintaining seed quality for domestic markets. 

Marketing and Corporate Affairs

Consumer targeted promotional campaigns for all potatoes and potato products throughout the year. 

Working with key influencers to improve their understanding of the crop’s nutrition and sustainability credentials. 

Educating primary and secondary school children about the benefits of potatoes. 

Managing image and issues with stakeholders and the media

Market Intelligence

Providing resources to inform business decisions; weekly prices, areas and stocks, industry statistics. Consumer Insight and identification of market opportunities
