The ‘Next Generation’ visit McCain for field to fork experience

21 June 2018

AHDB Potatoes ‘Next Generation’ tour got underway in Yorkshire last week, as the third in-take of aspiring industry leaders spent the day exploring Scarborough on a processing focussed trip to McCain.

Demonstrating quality crop; the day incorporated the crop production processes at local potato seed and ware growers, James Stockdale Ltd (‘Stockdales’), before a tour of the McCain facilities.

The visit concluded with a trip to a local restaurant, which completed the full field to fork experience.

Matt Stubbings, Trainee Field Person for McCain and Next Generation graduate, said:

“We wanted the Next Gen group to experience the full ‘field to fork’ journey that has as much emphasis on field agronomy as it does on the final product.

“Right from the very beginning, the McCain brothers who founded the company in 1957 believed that if you don’t get the agronomy right, you can’t produce the right product.

“We work closely with over 300 potato growers and our highly-skilled agronomists throughout the UK, so ourfield team play a key role in ensuring the very best crop is harvested for our products.”
