Encouraging healthy, sustainable diets: the role potatoes play

18 September 2012

This briefing summarises the analysis which showed that a diet rich in potatoes provides higher intakes of a number of key nutrients including Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium, iodine and folate compared to alternative carbohydrates such as rice and pasta.

The National Diet and Nutritional Survey (NDNS) is a continual cross-sectional survey, jointly funded by the Department of Health and Food Standards Agency. It is designed to assess the diet, nutrient intake and nutrtional status of the general population aged 18 months and upwards living in private households in the UK.
