Nominations sought for prestigious potato industry award

2 August 2011

AHDB Potatoes is seeking nominations for this year's British Potato Industry Award. The award is presented to an individual recognised for their outstanding contribution to the GB potato industry.

Potatoes continue to be a major source of nutrition for the nation, and overall demand has held steady through the recession in all forms from fresh to processed, in the form of chips, crisps and other potato-based products.

AHDB Potatoes continues to back progressive moves by leaders in the fields of marketing, innovation, and research and development who satisfy this demand.  By presenting this award it recognises the dedication and entrepreneurial spirit of those who have made outstanding contributions to the GB potato industry.

AHDB Potatoes chairman Allan Stevenson comments: “The last year has presented many challenges to the industry and this award recognises those for whom recession is merely an opportunity to stand out even more from the crowd, as they did during the better years.

“In my role as the AHDB Potatoes Chairman I see many examples of success in our industry across a broad spectrum of areas in production, processing, and research for example, as well as those who give freely of their valuable time to support AHDB Potatoes committees and engage with us in other ways. Our past winners were, and many still are, leaders in their field.

Please help us find a new, worthy winner for 2010 who is a leader today.”

Anyone wishing to nominate a person for the British Potato Industry Award should send a nomination form to the award committee secretary by 31 July 2010. The award committee, drawn from the different sectors of the GB potato industry, will select the winner.

The winner of this prestigious award will receive a sterling silver rose bowl which will be presented later in the year.

Nomination forms are available from the award committee secretary, Margaret Skinner, British Potato Industry Award, AHDB Potatoes, Rural Centre, West Mains, Newbridge, Midlothian, EH28 8NZ.  Tel: 0131 472 4064  fax: 0131 472 4065
