Rural Development Programme England (RDPE)

23 March 2012

Funding for Agricultural, Forestry, Rural Businesses and Communities

Since taking over responsibility for the delivery of the RDPE socio-economic elements, through the newly established RDPE Delivery Teams, Defra is providing a strong lead on the priorities for delivery. In particular, Defra has refocused remaining socio-economic resources (circa £100 million) of RDPE in line with the priorities of the Rural Economy Growth Review.
Both the Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme and the Rural Economy Grant provide investment support connected with rainwater harvesting or reservoir development

Farming and Forestry Improvement Scheme (FFIS)

The FFIS provides small grants from £2.5 – £25k to farmers, foresters and horticultural businesses at 40% intervention rate (50% in uplands).
The 5 themes include animal health and welfare, nutrient management, water resource efficiency, energy efficiency and Forestry. The first round closed in January and we expect round 2 to be launched in May 2012.

Rural Economy Grant (REG)

The Rural Economy Grant (REG) provides grants  from £62k - £1m to enable a significant ‘game-changing', transformational performance in farm, forestry, tourism, agri-food businesses and micro businesses in rural areas in England.
The REG application process is competitive and those projects offering the greatest return on grant investment will be more likely to be successful.
