South East Potato Day

27 July 2011

Don’t miss this year’s South East Potato Day at Quex Park Estate, Birchington, Kent on June 23 where industry specialists will be on-hand to discuss a range of topical issues such as new legislation and ever-increasing demands for quality.

In the morning, AHDB Potatoes Caroline Evans and Maria Ball will launch the levy-body’s new TV advert. They will then go on to discuss the impact of marketing and consumer trends and the affect the activity has on potato products.

Jon Swain will be examining factors affecting storage and energy efficiency and how to save money and the Environment Agency will discuss water resources in the South East and what the future holds for those that irrigate.

During the afternoon field session, David Hudson of David Hudson Potato Services will discuss cultivations and how they affect the soil/water interactions and the consequences on quality and yield.

Dr Mark Stalham from Cambridge University Farms will tackle irrigation and scheduling with a practical and interactive demonstration.

Due to the informal nature of the field session, growers will be welcome to raise other topics of interest to them.
