Become a Digital Ambassador

29 August 2014

Are you passionate about potatoes?

We are looking for enthusiastic, social media-savvy volunteers, who would be happy to communicate our key messages to their online reach. If this sounds like you or someone you know then keep reading...

What is a ‘Digital Ambassador’?

For this voluntary role you need to have lots of positive energy and to be a keen ambassador for the potato industry. The aim of the ‘Digital Ambassador’ is to help promote AHDB Potatoes marketing messages to your own online community via @thepotatogirls.

What are the benefits to AHDB Potatoes?

In 2009 we successfully launched the Potato Ambassador project, since then we have had two teams consisting of ten AHDB Potatoes ambassadors from across England, Wales and Scotland. Over the years the teams have been busy promoting potatoes through the media, school visits, as well as attending trade and county shows on our behalf, to talk about potatoes to consumers, stakeholders and policy makers. Technology has now made it easier for people to access the web, for example a third of visitors to the Love Potatoes site access via Smart phone or tablet, compared to only 3% accessing via a desktop. This change in technology calls for a change in roles so we have a team of ‘Digital Ambassadors’ to communicate key messaging throughout the year.

How do I get involved?

To qualify as a ‘Digital Ambassador’ you will need to be a potato or seed grower and either have your own Twitter account, that is regularly updated, or own and manage your own blog, whether for business or personal use. We would recommend that you used your official business Twitter account to enjoy maximum benefits to your business.

How can I apply?

Email us at potatoes.marketing@ahdb.org.uk or direct mail us on Twitter @thepotatogirls and we'll be in contact monthly with a set of suggested tweets if you're stuck for tweets or you can use your own tweets and our key messages.
