Potato Weekly - 01 February 2019

Publication Date:
1 February 2019

As January comes to a close trade remained muted, despite increased availability of reported supply. Passive demand for both chipping and packing supplies dampened prices, conforming to seasonal trends. Lower quality stocks continue to be moved out of stores where possible, with remaining samples reportedly holding up reasonably well.

  • The English packing market trade was reportedly picking up slowly, with volume described as ‘plenty on offer’. Prices for packing whites remained generally steady on the week.
  • Trade has been slow and steady on the week for Scottish packers, with demand still lacking. Prices are remaining pressured as supplies coming out of store try and enter the market.
  • Bag market trade has again been slow this week. With news of the traded volume reportedly reduced, prices for the bag sector has remained firm.
