Potato Weekly - 03 May 2019

Publication Date:
3 May 2019

With some finishing planting, home trade markets experienced a slight pickup. An increase in movement of stocks out of stores has kept markets well-supplied. Demand for export markets continued at relatively high levels for packing and processing supplies.

  • For most, planting schedules have finished or beginning to approach the final weeks. As temperatures start to warm up, incidences of rainfall will be welcomed. Conditions remain favourable, any growers held up are able to return to fieldwork a couple days later. With intermittent rainfall, spray programmes have begun without many issues.
  • English packing markets were reportedly quiet for the week. Domestic movement was mostly contracted, with some free-buy trade reported for deficits to be met.
  • Scottish packing markets remained largely quiet with the bulk of trade driven by export demand.
  • Demand for exports was reportedly remaining high for processing and packing supplies this week.
