Potato Weekly - 05 October 2018

Publication Date:
5 October 2018

Increased supplies reached the market this week with mixed demand reported. Lifting progress was restricted in areas by low soil moisture this week. Western regions, which have seen more rain, are generally making more headway. In addition, the mixed rate of skin set continues to delay lifting for some.

  • There was an increased volume of purchases reported this week, with more lifting taking place. That said there were some reports of a quieter week in terms of free-buy purchases, with contracts being drawn on and store loading taking place.
  • Due to the limited lifting in Scotland, free-buy packing trade remained slow this week.
  • An increasing amount of supply entered the bag market this week, but was met with limited demand for the most part as chip shop trade remained stagnant. Quality remains highly variable and reports of secondary growth impacting frying performance in some samples have continued to come forward.
