Potato Weekly - 08 February 2019

Publication Date:
8 February 2019

Domestic demand for potatoes saw no notable increase in the first week of February, with contracted supplies still dominating. Prices remain quality dependent, with demand still better for best quality material. Wet weather this week in the South West continued to delay planting.

  • Freebuy demand remained low for most packing material this week, with the majority of movement being contracted. Prices were reported to be steady for whites while lesser quality M Piper is being pressured slightly.
  • Trade has been measured for Scottish packers, with demand still lacking. Prices were generally reported as steady, with little to rally the market. Reportedly, some packers have adequate supplies in store hence the lower demand.
  • Bag market trade has again been slow this week. Traded volume was reportedly mixed on the week, with prices varied dependent on the quality on offer.
