Potato Weekly - 12 October 2018

Publication Date:
12 October 2018

Improved lifting progress was made this week, following beneficial weather conditions at the start of this week. Reduced yields and secondary growth continued to be reported from unirrigated fields, although quality was often found to be better than feared.

  • Trade in the English packing market remained steady as on-farm priorities took precedence this week. Increased supplies were reported to reach the market but demand remained flat, therefore prices were pressured slightly.
  • Packing prices remained largely flat on the week in Scotland as demand continued at low levels with growers focussing on filling stores.
  • Bag market trade reportedly remained slow for most this week. As increasing supplies become available, prices for samples with good bag count and best quality have remained steady. However, prices for lower quality supplies have continued to slip.
