Potato Weekly - 15 February 2019

Publication Date:
15 February 2019

As February progresses, demand in the free-buy market remains subdued. Contracted movement continues to dominate trade. Export markets have seen continued strong demand. Processors on the continent are looking for good quality frying material, as supplies on the continent dwindle. Good quality material continues to demand a high premium. Steady demand for these supplies has been reported in several markets.

  • Freebuy demand for most packing material remained low this week, as most market demand was fulfilled by contracted supplies. Prices remained mostly unchanged on the week, with no pickup reported.
  • Domestically demand for free-buy supplies remained subdued this week in the Scottish packing market, with trade remaining mostly under contract. However, strong demand for Scottish material from the exports markets was reported and may tighten free-buy supplies later in the season.
  • The bag market trade this week has been mixed, depending upon location, owing to differences in regional demand.
