Potato Weekly - 18 January 2019

Publication Date:
18 January 2019

Trade remained slow this week, with little pick-up reported. Demand for both chipping and packing supplies continued to be limited, following seasonal trends. The quality of samples in stores are reportedly holding up reasonably well this winter, with little deterioration observed so far. Samples of lesser quality from some ambient stores are continuing to be moved where possible.

  • Another steady trading week passed for English packers, with traded volumes reportedly low but in line with seasonal trends. With little change to trade activities, prices remained largely flat on the week.
  • Trade was reportedly unchanged on the week for Scottish packers. Movement into English markets continues, which has been recently pressuring prices.
  • Bag market trade was reportedly steady this week, with prices remaining firm for most.  Demand for chipping supplies remained subdued following usual market trends for the time of year.
