Potato Weekly - 20 July 2018

Publication Date:
20 July 2018

With no significant precipitation over the last week, drought continues to be a major concern even in irrigated areas. Yields are reportedly suffering in some of the latest lifted crops and rising dry matter continues to cause concern. Limited old crop trade was reported for the most part, with the bag trade switching over to new crop and the pack houses mostly running off contracted supplies.

  • Free-buy trade for old crop English packing supplies was once again limited this week. Pack houses remain focussed on contracted supplies or working through pre-agreed trade. Orders were reportedly still lacking, attributed to the prolonged hot weather.
  • Old crop Scottish packing trade has reportedly been slow once again for old crop packing supplies, with only limited loads of free-buy potatoes moving.
  • Slow movement was reported in the bag market, with most reporting trade slightly down on the previous week. At this time the overwhelming majority are now trading new crop, with limited free-buy movement of old crop reported.
