Potato Weekly - 21 December 2018

Publication Date:
21 December 2018

Quieter than usual trade was reported across all sectors in the week before Christmas, with volumes moved in the freebuy market reportedly back on last year’s levels. Produce in store is reportedly holding up well for the majority, with no major issues raised.

  • Mixed movement was reported within the English packing market yet again this week, with some traders reportedly receiving a last minute flurry of Christmas orders. However, some were left disappointed by the lack of festive trade, as the market increasingly moves to contracted material.
  • A quiet trading week was reported in the Scottish packing market, with most free buy material destined to travel south of the border.
  • Trade in the bag market was reported as lacklustre for the majority. Considering the proximity to Christmas, orders were reported to be considerably below the previous year. Prices have remained steady on the week.
