Potato Weekly - 21 September 2018

Publication Date:
21 September 2018

Prices this week have been pressured from increased supplies. In the bag trade there has been a widening of price as quality becomes increasingly important. The packing market continues to utilise old crop material, although this is coming to an end. Burning off and lifting has continued to progress but is behind previous years.

  • New crop English packing potato prices have remained steady on the week, with quiet trade reported. Old crop packing supplies are continuing to reach the market, with prices remaining flat for reds, whilst whites have firmed a little as supplies draw low.
  • Trade was reportedly quiet this week in Scotland with packing prices generally pressured slightly following increasing market supplies.
  • Bag trade has been reported to be in a seasonal lull as the coastal holiday centric chip shop demand slows. However, inland the more autumnal conditions are reportedly starting to raise demand in some regions.
