Potato Weekly - 26 October 2018

Publication Date:
26 October 2018

With many finding field conditions ideal for lifting this week, good progress was made. Store lifting remained the priority for most growers, so supplies were steady on the week. Demand in the bag market was reported to increase slightly during the school half-term break.

  • An uneventful week was reported by English packers, with demand waning as growers continue loading to store. Prices remained mostly flat on the week, with marginally mixed movement for M Piper and white varieties respectively.

  • Despite a range of prices and quality available in the Scottish packing market, demand remains slow. Interest from buyers was focussed on high quality samples and those with a greater baker fraction.

  • Chipping markets have remained steady. While half term trade is providing some additional demand, levels of trade are relatively low. However, as lifting progresses with store loading, some growers’ reluctance to sell is supporting prices.
