Potato Weekly - Friday 01 September 2017

Publication Date:
1 September 2017

Lifting continued to progress this week, with more supplies coming onto the market across the country. Demand has generally been subdued, however, the bank holiday helped to lift demand towards the beginning of the week. Common scab continues to be a problem and there have been isolated reports of blight in some areas.

  • Prices for the English packing market remained suppressed this week, with more new supplies coming onto the market being met with limited demand. There are anecdotal comments of an increase in the volume of contract trade taking place in the packing market this season, which could drive higher volatility in the free-buy market.
  • Prices in the Scottish packing market fell again this week, with free-buy trade remaining limited.
  • The bank holiday helped trade in the bag market last week and further signs of improvement have been seen, however, demand still remains limited.
