Potato Weekly - Friday 08 September 2017

Publication Date:
11 September 2017

Most markets continue to be dominated by contract purchases, causing slow demand for available free-buy supplies. Rain across much of GB has delayed harvest and burning off of crops continues.

  • The majority of purchases in the English packing market have taken place under contract this week with minimal free-buy demand being reported.

  • In the Scottish packing market most trade continues to take place under contract. Free-buy supply remains limited. Any surplus from contracted crops that yielded higher than expected were being moved as quickly as possible to prevent the need to store.

  • Trade continues to be slow in the bag market with sales concentrated in the east. Sales and trade are anticipated to increase as the season progresses into autumn, the colder conditions expected to increase bag market sales.
