Potato Weekly - Friday 1 June 2018

Publication Date:
1 June 2018

Slow trade on the back of low demand was reported in the English and Scottish packing sector. Bag market trade was more mixed, with some in Western regions seeing increasing prices, but generally a slower week after the bank holiday. Planting has been completed for the majority and an increasing amount of new crop is being lifted and reaching the market.

  • A quiet week reported in the English packing market with repeat orders being fulfilled and prices remaining stable. The vast majority of desirable samples were still moving via contract.
  • Quiet trade was reported in Scotland this week with old crop stocks remaining abundant in store. With the limited demand, prices remained flat, with reports of undesirable samples going for stock feed.
  • Trade in the bag market was reportedly slower this week, with demand limited despite a good number of samples available. Some saw slight price increases in the West, especially for good quality samples.
