Potato Weekly- Friday 11 May 2018

Publication Date:
11 May 2018

A week of good weather has seen planting progress well in most areas, with Arrow and Swift in some regions not far off lifting. Old crop prices have seen support, although some markets remain flat with mixed reports of demand.

  • Prices in the English packing market were largely unchanged for whites despite lacking demand and plentiful stocks. For K Edward and M Piper, prices remain firm, with movement steady.

  • Trade in the Scottish packing market was reported as “unusually quiet” this week even in the context of the current season. Prices were generally flat for whites, depending on origin and quality. However, the M Piper market did feel slightly firmer for some.

  • The record high temperatures over the bank holiday weekend resulted in increased bagged demand in southern coastal regions. In the West, demand was generally reported as increasing while trade in the East was mixed. The upturn in weather conditions meant most were busy balancing trade and planting.
