Potato Weekly - Friday 13 April 2018

Publication Date:
13 April 2018

Trade remained steady this week for most although there were signs of a firmer feeling in the English packing market. Ongoing rainfall across much of the UK has continued to cause issues for most regions, stalling both planting and field work further and contributing to raised prices for varieties in demand.

  • As the likelihood of delayed main crop planting becomes more probable, packing market sellers are reportedly starting to turn down the low prices offered for much of this season, in anticipation of an end of season uptick.
  • Trade in the Scottish packing market remained quiet this week as much of the movement continued to be on contract. The main exception remains to be for good quality M Piper, which is still in demand.
  • Trade was reported to be at similar levels to the previous week in the bag market with little change for the majority
