Potato Weekly - Friday 16 March 2018

Publication Date:
19 March 2018

Trade saw a pick-up for some, in both England and Scotland this week. Prices remained steady for most but the quality of produce now emerging from stores has been reported to be improving in some areas.

  • Increased movement was reported by many in the English packing market this week, though ample available supplies caused prices to remain flat for the most part.
  • There were mixed reports from Scotland this week, with trade being described as “picking up” for some, although others reported similar levels to the previous week. Good quality Maris Piper remained in demand, but sourcing good quality samples has been reported as increasingly difficult.
  • Movement in the bag market was generally reported as similar to the previous week, though some reported a slight pickup. While ample supplies have meant that prices remained flat for the most part, a continual demand for best quality supplies has meant that top end prices have crept up for many varieties.
