Potato Weekly - Friday 18 May 2018

Publication Date:
18 May 2018

Continued good weather has aided planting this week, with some 2018 crop being harvested in the South and Cheshire. Packing markets have generally seen a quieter week than bag markets with prices remaining largely consistent on the week.

  • Continued steady movement of produce in England was reported this week with little change in price for whites, K Edward and M Piper, however the price of bakers did firm. Demand was reported to be mixed, dependent on planting progress in each region.
  • Trade in the Scottish packing market remained quiet this week, with some reporting the market is evolving faster than usual, carrying a later summer feel. Prices of M Piper firmed slightly, however, whites remain varied on quality.
  • Regional differences in trade were clearly observed this week with high quality supplies from the East being in strong demand across the country
