Potato Weekly - Friday 20 April 2018

Publication Date:
20 April 2018

Price was reported to have been undergone a slight rise of late, for some. This was reportedly driven, in part, by an improved weather forecast. This upturn in conditions led to reduced availability of supplies, as many prioritised field work. As a result, this has supported prices in some markets.

  • Trade in the English packing market was largely unchanged on the week. However, individual supply and demand characteristics of both M Piper and K Edward markets have led to prices widening.
  • Prices in the Scottish packing market were largely unchanged on the week. As with the English packing market individual supply and demand characteristics were keeping some varieties firmer than others, in particular for M Piper, K Edward and Desiree.
  • Trade was reported to be seeing a slight rise, not only in demand but also in price, as availability and growers time becomes scarce. However, some caution that the demand and weather over the upcoming two May bank holidays will be pivotal to the overall outlook for old crop in this sector.
