Potato Weekly - Tuesday 3 April 2018

Publication Date:
3 April 2018

Trade remained flat on the week for most. Planting of the early crop began to make progress in many regions but sustained rainfall in Cornwall has continued to cause issues. Where possible, fieldwork for maincrop planting was underway.

  • Trade remained flat on the week with limited demand in the English packing market. The Easter pickup which was expected did not materialise for most.

  • There was strong demand for good quality Maris Piper in the Scottish packing market last week, although sourcing good quality samples was reportedly difficult. Meanwhile trade in packing whites remained slow with no increase in demand.

  • Trade in the bag market was reported to be at similar levels to the previous week with little change for the majority.
