The East Malling Rootstock Breeding Club

Since the 1980s breeding of new scion and rootstock varieties at EMR has been partly funded by MAFF/Defra and partly by the industry through the East Malling Apple and Pear Breeding Club (APBC), an internationally supported organisation.  In 2006, prompted by the departure of ENZA and the revised views of the HDC Tree Fruit Panel, it was decided to close down the APBC and replace it with a similar club (East Malling Rootstock Club) focussing on rootstock breeding and development.
