This factsheet is about Sclerotinia, a disease caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is a recurring problem in the UK. The disease has a host range of more than 400 plant species, including many vegetable and arable crops such as carrots, lettuce, green beans, vining peas, potatoes and oilseed rape.

Following reports of poor control of chocolate spot in broad beans, with associated yield losses, research was carried out to determine the best treatment options for growers. Work has subsequently been undertaken to determine the best timing of product use for chocolate spot control.

Turnip yellows virus (TuYV), is spread by aphids, mostly the peach–potato aphid (Myzus persicae). The virus can dramatically reduce yields, especially when plants are infected early in the growing season. It is well established in Europe, and is especially common in areas of intensive brassica production in UK.
